Montgomery Village is located adjacent to Washington, D.C. and across the Potomac River from Virginia, along the I-270 high technology corridor. Interstate 270, which connects D.C. to the outer countryside and bisects the Gaithersburg area, offers quick and easy access from the sleepy country suburbs to the state-of-the-art technology industry. Gaithersburg exploded with growth following the arrival of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad in 1873. A second major growth spurt occurred in the 1960s when the Atomic Energy Commission and the National Institute for Standards and Technology relocated to the area. Also with IBM located not too far from its borders and major hotel centers such as Marriott and Executive Stay makes Montgomery Village a great place to live.
In addition to baseball at Apple Ridge Ball Field and Recreation Area or a picnic at Clubside Park or William Hurley Park, Montgomery Village is the home of numerous annual events and community get-togethers. South Valley Park boasts a musical tradition of free summer concerts every Sunday evening. The annual Art, Craft and Photography Show in March highlight Village artists and painters. The Holiday Craft Bazaar is held every November at the Lake Marion Community and an annual Flea Market is held in both May and September at the North Creek Community Center.
Students in Montgomery Village are served by the outstanding Montgomery County Public Schools district. More than 81% of MCPS seniors take the SAT and 90% of all students graduate. A few MCPS schools are located right in the Village, while others are in nearby communities. A number of excellent colleges and universities are within driving distance of Montgomery Village, including Howard University, the Catholic University of America and Penn State Mont Alto.
